DAN VS THE CHOIR OF VOICES
IN HIS HEAD
IN
GO SLAY DRAGONS
Solo Stand-up/Storytelling show 2018
Dan was almost shot - and it's all Rupert Murdoch's fault. Kinda. A lefty snowflake somehow working at The Sun, fighting the choir of voices in his head leads him on a noble quest in this demonstrably true tale of love, adventure and song.
ABOUT THE SHOW
After getting married, I decided as many creative types do, that it would be nice to create something romantic for my wife. The best thing would be a song, but being devoid of musical talent (I once had singing lessons for over 5 years, at the end of which, my tutor said to me 'Shall we just stop?') all I had was the chance to tell our love story in the form of a live show.
I decided I'd do a storytelling/stand-up show with musical elements and ended up getting together a group of lovely musician friends ( I hang out with cool, artist types, what can I say?) who became 'The Choir of Voices in his Head'.
With 6 of the 10 songs making the cut (the others were really well done by the gang and only cut for time), the finished show ended up becoming 2 stories - when we first met and all the mistakes I made nearly messing the whole thing up. And the planned proposal on a sun-kissed beach that was put in slight jeopardy by realising I'd lost my passport 2 days before we left.
Throw in my regret at being a leftie liberal working at The Sun and the cross-country adventure that almost got me shot, I read the tale sat behind a desk, from notebooks and diaries. I imagined I was a reincarnation of acclaimed 80s monologist Spalding Gray. No-one else imagined the same.
