DAN VS FOOD
One-off comedy fringe event 2019
A man eats a meal on stage. This is the greatest cultural event of the year. For one lunchtime only, a man called Dan will eat a three-course meal live on stage in a 750 seat theatre. Such a feat has never been attempted before. Surrounded by a team of Fringe favourites and encouraged by super special guests, Dan will masticate furiously before us all. But will he complete his meal? Will anyone attempt to throw him off his stride? Who will win in the battle of Dan vs Food? Charity event in aid of FareShare.
ABOUT THIS SHOW
Some time around 2011, the comedian Alexander Bennett and I were, very unusually of course, drunk at the fringe. We began throwing around stupid ideas, one of which was charging punters for tickets to sit for an hour and watch me eat a meal on stage. Every year, on the occasion of an odd tipple at the fringe, we'd return to the idea and it would grow in our minds to become this great cultural event that would eventually encompass competitors, a half-time show, judges, pundits and much more. The eventual show featured a mix of tv and fringe favourites including Johnny & the Baptists, Phil Wang, Nick Helm, Ed Gamble, Sophie Duker, Marcel Lacont, Olga Koch, Ivo Graham and many, many more. It was all done in the aid of the charity Fareshare.
FareShare is a charity aimed at relieving food poverty and reducing food waste in the UK. It does this by rescuing good quality surplus food that would otherwise have gone to waste and sending it to over 6,700 charity and community groups across the UK.
Dan vs Food raised over £1000 for the charity.
